Iran's Deputy FM Rebuts Bessent's 'Greatest Financial Assault in History' Claim
24 August 2026 | 2 months ago
Kazem Gharibabadi, Iran's deputy foreign minister, responded on X on Monday, August 24, 2026 (2 Shahrivar 1405) to comments by US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, writing: "Mr. Bessent! Your narrative doesn't add up: you say Iran's military capability has been dismantled, nearly 100 percent of its military factories destroyed, and its nuclear program buried, yet you needed the 'greatest financial assault in history' and the mobilization of every US institution and authority against this same Iran. Is that a victory, or an admission of American failure?"
Earlier the same day, Bessent had claimed the Trump administration had entered the "final phase" of its campaign against Iran, announcing what he called an "Economic D-Day," and described the move as the largest financial assault ever organized against a country, aimed at cutting off Iran's economic lifelines using every US institution and authority.
