Farzaneh Sadeq, Iran's minister of roads and urban development, said on Wednesday 7 Mordad 1405 (29 July 2026), at a consultative meeting with members of parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, that track laying on the Chabahar to Zahedan route is expected to finish by the end of this summer and that the rail link should enter service in Mehr or Aban 1405 (roughly late September to November 2026).
According to Mehr News Agency, committee members at the meeting stressed the importance of developing the north to south and east to west corridors, and discussed easing the movement of goods out of ports, expanding investment in the northern ports, strengthening transport diplomacy and developing border terminals in the east and west.
At the same meeting the minister said that of roughly 850,000 supportive housing units the ministry took over, fewer than 200,000 had building permits, and that shortages of funding, provision of infrastructure services and bank financing had been among the projects' challenges.
