According to Shafaq News, citing US Energy Information Administration (EIA) data released Sunday, August 9, 2026 (18 Mordad 1405), US crude oil imports from Iraq remained at zero last week, extending the halt to a sixth consecutive week. Canada was the largest supplier to the US at 4.215 million barrels per day, followed by Venezuela at 411,000 bpd, Mexico at 388,000 bpd, Ecuador at 223,000 bpd and Brazil at 196,000 bpd; Saudi Arabia also recorded no shipments to the US that week.
Iraq last supplied the US during the week ending June 19, averaging 71,000 bpd. Shafaq News reported that Iraq lost an estimated 302.8 million barrels of production in the first half of 2026 due to export disruptions through the Strait of Hormuz stemming from the US-Iran war. Iraq, OPEC's second largest producer, relies on oil for about 90 percent of state revenue.
