Kuwait says an Iranian strike caused widespread damage at a power and water desalination plant
17 July 2026 | 3 months ago
Kuwait's Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy said on Friday, July 17, 2026, that one of the country's power plants and desalination facilities was struck, triggering a fire. Kuwaiti officials said the blaze was contained and that technical teams were restoring the damaged units to the grid.
Iran's Revolutionary Guard announced the attack as part of what it called the "15th wave of Operation Nasr 2." Desalination complexes supply about 90 percent of Kuwait's drinking water, which makes damage to them especially significant.
The strike is part of an escalation across the Persian Gulf following the latest round of US and Iranian attacks.
