Kuwait urges electricity rationing after a strike on a power and desalination plant
18 July 2026 | 3 months ago
Kuwaiti authorities on Saturday, July 18, urged the public to ration electricity after an Iranian strike caused extensive damage to a power and water desalination plant, sparking a fire and knocking out a large number of electricity generation units. Kuwait relies on desalination for about 90 percent of its drinking water.
Kuwait said it intercepted some of the missiles and drones early Saturday, in the second such attack on the small country in two days. The damage to critical water and power infrastructure shows how deeply the US-Iran war is reaching the Persian Gulf states hosting American bases.
