Naphtha, the main feedstock of the petrochemical industry, jumped 8.04 percent in a single day to $782.27 a tonne on Wednesday 29 July 2026 (7 Mordad 1405), a rise of $58.24 from the previous day. The price is 26.84 percent higher over the past month and 40.93 percent above the same period last year.
Methanol also rose the same day, up 2.02 percent to 2,620 yuan a tonne, while propane gained 3.37 percent. Crude oil moved the other way: on Thursday 8 Mordad, Brent traded at $90.38 a barrel, down 0.4 percent, and West Texas Intermediate at $84.09, down 0.43 percent.
The divergence between petrochemical products and crude matters directly for Iran, because naphtha and methanol are two significant items in the country's non-oil export basket, and the margins of petrochemical complexes depend on the gap between feedstock and product prices.
