Hamid Bovard, CEO of the National Iranian Oil Company, said, according to Tasnim News Agency as carried by Donya-e-Eqtesad on Wednesday, September 2, 2026 (11 Shahrivar 1405), that Iran has recorded the world's largest volume of gas discovered since 2025 through a combined 17.5 trillion cubic feet found at the Takhteh gas field in southern Fars province and the Pazan field, putting the country in first place worldwide for gas exploration over that period.
Bovard said drilling at the Takhteh gas field led to the discovery of 7,500 billion cubic feet of gas in place and 5,500 billion cubic feet of recoverable gas. He added that NIOC is shifting part of its exploration management activity toward the country's northern and northwestern regions, given their hydrocarbon potential, by adding exploration rigs and carrying out seismic survey projects, to help offset part of the country's energy imbalance using newly discovered resources.
