US crude oil (West Texas Intermediate) rose more than 4 percent in late trading on Tuesday 28 July 2026, reaching about $82.7 a barrel. The move followed a statement by US Central Command that Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces had fired multiple ballistic missiles from Iran at US forces stationed in the region. CENTCOM put the time of the attack at 5:45 p.m. Eastern time on Tuesday.
The jump reversed losses recorded earlier the same day. US crude had fallen below $80 a barrel on Tuesday as Iran held talks with Saudi Arabia and Oman over the Strait of Hormuz.
Brent crude, which had eased back to around $83 in the early hours of Wednesday 29 July 2026, was trading at about $86.97 a barrel at 3:27 a.m. Tehran time according to Sahmino's own price data.
