According to EcoIran, citing Tasnim, The Washington Post reported on Saturday, September 19, 2026, citing a military document, that US Central Command (CENTCOM) has estimated the cost of the war with Iran at roughly $43.6 billion through early September, far above figures the Trump administration had previously disclosed. Per the document, about $28 billion has gone toward replacing munitions expended since the war began on February 28, and more than $4.3 billion toward lost or damaged equipment. Air Force operational costs exceed $6.6 billion, Navy costs are about $2.2 billion, and Army costs about $1.6 billion. The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office separately reported this week that the war's cost through July was about $38 billion, with continuation costing $2 to $3 billion per month. The New York Times reported more than 50,000 US troops are deployed in the region for the mission, and the $43.6 billion figure does not include potential costs to rebuild US bases in the region damaged during the conflict.
