Jabbar Ali Zakeri, CEO of the Islamic Republic of Iran Railways, said six rail network bridges destroyed during recent wars were rebuilt and returned to service within 12 to 24 hours, and at most five days, restoring domestic and international rail links to their pre war state, according to a Mehr News Agency report published Sunday, Shahrivar 1, 1405 (August 23, 2026).
Zakeri said rail freight with Afghanistan, previously under 15,000 tons a year, has now reached about 130,000 tons a month, with a forecast of reaching about 1.5 million tons within a year. He also said passenger rail service between Tehran and Van, halted for about five years, has resumed, and rail links with Central Asia and Turkey have become more active.
