Saudi Aramco Cuts Official Asia Oil Price in Biggest Reduction in Decades
10 July 2026 | 3 months ago
Saudi Aramco cut its official selling price (OSP) for Arab Light crude to Asia by $11 a barrel for August loadings, moving it to a $1.50 discount versus the Oman/Dubai average, down from a $9.50 premium the prior month. According to Bloomberg (July 6, 2026), it is Aramco's largest official price cut since 2003 and the first time Arab Light has sold at a discount since the 2020 oil price war. Outlets cited weakening Chinese demand and a global supply surplus as the main drivers, even as geopolitical risk from the Strait of Hormuz crisis keeps global oil prices elevated. The move challenges the "war premium" narrative that has recently dominated oil markets, showing supply and demand fundamentals are also at work.
