Sepehr and Jofeir oilfield output rises from 57,000 to more than 77,000 barrels a day, with a 110,000 barrel target by the end of 1405

Nasrollah Zarei, chief executive of the Petroleum Engineering and Development Company, said in an interview with Shana on Friday 31 July 2026 (9 Mordad 1405) that output from the Sepehr and Jofeir oilfield has risen from about 57,000 barrels per day to more than 77,000 barrels per day. He said nine new wells will be drilled and completed by the end of the Iranian year 1405 to lift the field's production to 110,000 barrels per day, with a production maintenance phase beginning in 1406 under the field's development and production plan.
Zarei attributed the record to the drilling and completion of new wells, well intervention and repair work, optimisation of production conditions through pressure management and choke selection, and integrated reservoir management. He said the development contract for the field runs for 20 years and covers the Ilam and Fahlian reservoirs; given the large volume of oil in place in the Ilam reservoir and its slower depletion rate, that reservoir's producing life will be considerably longer than Fahlian's.
He said development and production operations continued without interruption during the twelve day war, with five wells from the Fahlian reservoir and one from Ilam brought into production; two of the Fahlian wells, with a combined capacity of about 11,000 barrels per day, were still producing through temporary wellhead facilities. Zarei cited staff safety, protection of installations, constraints on supplying equipment and spare parts, and disruption to the supply and transport chain as the main challenges of that period. He added that most surface equipment such as pumps, mixers and manifolds is sourced domestically, while some specialised downhole equipment is not yet fully localised.
