Since the Start of the Week an 18-Carat Gram Is About 1.95 Million Tomans Cheaper and the New-Design Coin About 17 Million; Coin Premium at 10.5 Million

14 October 2026 | 6 days ago

Nader Bazrafshan, head of the Tehran Gold and Jewelry Makers and Sellers Union, told Mehr on Wednesday 14 October 2026 (22 Mehr 1405) that since the start of the week a gram of 18-carat gold is about 1.95 million tomans cheaper. The full new-design coin has fallen by about 17 million tomans, the old design by 14.5 million, the half coin by 7.5 million, the quarter coin by 4.5 million and the one-gram coin by about 2 million. The coin premium is down about 0.9 million tomans from last week's peak to 10.5 million tomans; he says it remains higher than earlier levels.

He said that despite a 12 to 16 dollar rise in the global gold ounce, a fall of about 10,000 tomans in the dollar at home pulled prices down. Bazrafshan called a drop of 18-carat gold below 25 million tomans by the end of the week unlikely and said the trend depends on the exchange rate and central bank policy.

Donya-e-Eqtesad, citing the union, reported that the Emami coin closed on Tuesday 13 October at 257.9 million tomans, 6.9 million below Monday. Live market rates at 11:30 on Wednesday show a partial rebound: 18-carat gold at 25,948,100 tomans and the Emami coin at 263,200,000 tomans.
