Suez Canal to Raise Transit Surcharges by Up to 37 Percent From July 15
10 July 2026 | 3 months ago
Suez Canal Authority officials announced that transit surcharges for most vessel classes will rise starting July 15, 2026 (24 Tir 1405). For the first time, container ships will face a 12 percent surcharge, while the existing tiered rate structure for containers otherwise remains unchanged. Laden crude oil tankers see the steepest increase, paying up to 37 percent above the base transit fee. Gas carriers and bulk carriers are also subject to higher charges. The authority said the adjustment reflects its assessment of maritime market conditions and may be revised or cancelled depending on future developments. The fee increase comes as shipping through the Strait of Hormuz remains disrupted, adding to global energy and freight cost pressures.
