According to ISNA, republished by Eghtesad Online, the government began implementing a programme to reduce energy restrictions on industry on Thursday, 30 July 2026 (8 Mordad 1405), by notifying the resolutions of the Supreme Energy Council. Seyed Mohammad Atabak, Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade, said the restrictions imposed on industry over the past period created a large imbalance in the sector, hitting energy-intensive industries such as steel in particular, as well as units located in industrial estates that faced serious difficulty securing electricity.
Atabak added that following the president's instruction on Industry and Mine Day, the First Vice President stressed full implementation at the Supreme Energy Council meeting held the same Thursday, and the directive was notified to the relevant bodies.
According to the minister, Iran's gas production currently stands at about 850 million cubic metres a day, of which roughly 185 million cubic metres is allocated to the industrial sector as a whole, including petrochemicals, and under the plan drawn up, between 115 and 120 million cubic metres of gas is to be allocated to the industry sector. He said decisions on the existing restrictions would be taken at various points in coordination with the Oil Ministry and in line with conditions. Atabak described the energy imbalance as a problem inherited from previous years that could not be fully resolved in the short term.
