Tavanir Asks Public to Cut Power Use for the Comfort of 1.5 Million University Entrance Exam Candidates

Iran's Tavanir electricity company said in a statement today, Sunday, August 16, 2026 (25 Mordad 1405), that it is asking the public to switch off high-consumption electrical appliances for one hour a day to help ensure stable power supply during the national university entrance exam. According to Khabar Online, citing Mehr News, the statement said continued heat, damage from the recent war and added strain on power plants and the distribution grid have made stable power supply harder to guarantee for close to 1.5 million exam candidates and their families.
Tavanir asked the public, particularly during the hours of 12:00 to 17:00 and 20:00 to 23:00, to reduce use of cooling appliances such as air conditioners and to shift the use of high-consumption devices like washing machines, dishwashers and vacuum cleaners to earlier in the day. The company said a 10 percent cut in consumption could ease conditions for families with children taking the exam, particularly in southern Iran.
