Tavanir: Illegal crypto mining sites found in homes and workshops lose energy subsidies for one year
9 September 2026 | last month
Mohammad Alahdad, CEO of Iran's Tavanir electricity company, said in remarks to the ISNA news agency, carried by Donya-e-Eqtesad on Wednesday, September 9, 2026 (18 Shahrivar 1405), that the company is intensifying its crackdown on illegal cryptocurrency mining. He said any unauthorized crypto mining site discovered since August 26, 2026 (4 Shahrivar 1405) in a home, business, poultry farm, agricultural or industrial unit or any other location will, in addition to paying for past consumption, lose its energy subsidy for one year, with electricity bills for that period calculated at the unsubsidized market tariff. Alahdad also advised prospective buyers and tenants to check a property's electricity consumption history before moving in or leasing it, to learn whether it may already be subject to the subsidy penalty over past illegal crypto mining.
