Tehran market inspection drive against overpricing and hoarding begins with 1,000 inspectors

Ali Farhadi, head of Iran's Government Discretionary Punishment Organisation, said on Saturday, 1 August 2026 (10 Mordad 1405), that from that day Tehran's markets were being monitored by 1,000 inspectors to tackle any overpricing or hoarding. The announcement was reported by the Tasnim news agency.
He said the drive is being carried out under a resolution of the national market regulation headquarters and in cooperation with guild inspectors and the Consumer Protection Organisation. Farhadi added that the scheme is due to be extended to every province, with the organisation submitting a monthly report on the inspectors' performance to the market regulation headquarters to inform later decisions.
Market inspection drives are typically launched in periods when currency swings and rising costs are pushing price pressure higher in the retail market.
