Tehran Stock Exchange Index Hits Record 6.58 Million Points Despite Seller Dominance; Real Money Outflow Reaches 4.3 Trillion Tomans

1 September 2026 · last month

Trading on the Tehran Stock Exchange closed with a fresh index record on Tuesday, 10 Shahrivar 1405 (September 1, 2026), even as sellers dominated the session. According to Ecoiran, the main TEDPIX index gained 0.55 percent, or 35,969 points, closing at 6,583,000 points, a new record following yesterday's record close of 6,548,000 points. Sahmino's own recorded data put the Tehran index's session level at 6,583,932 points, consistent with Ecoiran's figure. The equal weighted index rose 0.2 percent. Market breadth was nonetheless negative: 71 percent of listed symbols closed lower and only 29 percent closed higher. Retail investors withdrew about 4.3 trillion tomans from the market today, with the heaviest outflows from bank, oil and metal ore group stocks and the heaviest inflows into Vabank, Foolad Mobarakeh and Taban. The value of sell queues rose to 7,276 billion tomans by the close, up from just 1,498 billion tomans at the market's open. Total trading value for the day reached 59 trillion tomans.

Ecoiran attributed today's selling pressure to escalating political risk, the dollar's rise, and a disruption in the exchange's core trading system. President Masoud Pezeshkian, on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Kyrgyzstan, said Iran would respond immediately if the United States returned to its commitments under the Islamabad memorandum of understanding, while Axios, citing three US officials, reported that Washington is weighing limited strikes in the Strait of Hormuz.
