Tehran summons Ukraine's chargé d'affaires; Araghchi condemns the Caspian attack in a call with Kallas
26 July 2026 | 3 months ago
Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned Ukraine's acting chargé d'affaires in Tehran late on Saturday, 25 July 2026. The step followed a military attack on an Iranian commercial vessel in the Caspian Sea that killed one crew member. The ministry said the attack would not go unanswered.
The same day, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi condemned the attack in a phone call with EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas, calling for a response from the UN Security Council and the European Union and for those responsible to be held accountable.
The Caspian is one of the alternative routes for Iran's essential-goods supply and its trade with Russia and Central Asia. Insecurity along that route can raise freight costs and disrupt import supply chains.
