Trump: No Talks Underway With Iran, Strait of Hormuz Declared Open and Active

US President Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social on the evening of Tuesday, August 18, 2026 (27 Mordad 1405) that no negotiation or talks are underway or planned with the Islamic Republic of Iran. He added that the naval blockade remains in full force, but the Strait of Hormuz is open and active and all mines have been removed or destroyed.
According to Donya-e-Eqtesad, citing Asr Iran, Semafor journalist Shelby Talcott reported around the same time that a White House official characterized the post as meaning talks with Iran are called off until further notice. Earlier the same day, at 17:49 Tehran time, Ecoiran had separately reported the same Trump statement, noting he rejected any ongoing negotiation while confirming the naval blockade continues and the Strait of Hormuz remains open and active.
The remarks come after US-Iran talks stalled; the same day saw several security incidents in the Strait of Hormuz, including the detention of a UAE-flagged tanker and an unidentified projectile striking a cargo ship.
