US President Donald Trump told Axios on Sunday, 5 Mehr 1405 (27 September 2026) that despite rejecting Iran's proposal he expects further talks between the United States and Iran this week. "They want a deal, but it is not the deal I want," he said, adding that the Iranian side had overplayed its hand.

Asked about resuming strikes on Iran, Trump said he "always" thinks about it. The remarks came hours after Iran's foreign minister told NBC that Tehran is ready to reopen the Strait of Hormuz as part of a deal to end the war. The course of Tehran and Washington talks is currently the main driver of expectations in Iran's currency and gold markets.
