8 August 2026 | 2 months ago
The UN Security Council on Friday, August 7, 2026 (16 Mordad 1405), condemned Houthi missile attacks against Saudi Arabia and commercial vessels, along with unauthorized aircraft landings at Sanaa International Airport and Hodeidah Airport, warning the actions threaten regional security. According to Arab News, Council members said unauthorized landings by Iranian aircraft at Sanaa airport on July 3 and Hodeidah airport on July 13 occurred without Yemeni government authorization, in violation of international civil aviation rules.
Council members also condemned Houthi missile attacks on Saudi Arabia since July 13 and on commercial vessels since July 22, and stressed the importance of enforcing Security Council Resolution 2216, which bars arms transfers to the Houthis. The Council urged the Houthis to refrain from further escalation and use existing dialogue channels to reduce tensions, and reaffirmed support for UN Special Envoy for Yemen Hans Grundberg's efforts to reach a negotiated political settlement.
