US and European Troika Push New IAEA Board Resolution to Refer Iran's Nuclear File Back to UN Security Council

According to Khabaronline, citing Reuters and Fars, on Friday, 13 Shahrivar 1405 (September 4, 2026), diplomats said the United States, together with the European troika of Britain, France and Germany, is seeking to have the International Atomic Energy Agency's Board of Governors adopt a resolution at next week's meeting reporting what it calls Iran's "noncompliance with nonproliferation obligations" to the UN Security Council.
Per the report, the move would follow a resolution adopted by the board on 12 June 2025 (22 Khordad 1404), one day before Israel began bombing Iran's nuclear facilities, an operation the United States later joined; that earlier resolution also cited claims of insufficient Iranian cooperation with the agency. Adoption of the new resolution could pave the way for further sanctions and diplomatic pressure on Iran.
