According to Oilprice.com, in a report published Thursday, 22 Mordad 1405 (August 13, 2026), the US Department of Energy said it is allocating another $1 billion to X-energy for its joint nuclear reactor project with Dow in Texas, bringing total federal funding available for the project since 2021 to as much as $2.15 billion. X-energy CEO Clay Sell said Thursday the DOE informed the company of the additional funding through the Advanced Reactor Demonstration Program, and that, like the original award, it carries a 50/50 cost share requirement with private funding.
According to the report, X-energy and Dow plan to deploy the technology at Dow's Seadrift petrochemical complex in Texas, where the reactors would replace existing energy and steam units to provide electricity and industrial steam. Sell said the project is expected to become the first grid scale advanced nuclear reactor deployed to serve an industrial site in North America, with operation targeted for the early 2030s.
