US Launches Third Round of Strikes on Iran This Week in Response to Hormuz Ship Attack
12 July 2026 | 3 months ago
US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that its forces began a third round of strikes this week against targets in Iran in the early hours of Sunday, July 12, 2026 (7:15 p.m. Eastern Time on Saturday).
CENTCOM said the strikes were carried out in response to the IRGC's attack on the M/V GFS Galaxy, a Cyprus-flagged container ship, in the Strait of Hormuz, adding that Iran had "once again" failed to demonstrate adherence to the memorandum of understanding. Iran has rejected this account, saying it only fired a "warning shot" at a vessel on an unapproved route.
The renewed tensions between Tehran and Washington in recent days have pushed Brent crude above 76 dollars and cast a shadow over regional markets and Iran's currency market.
