US Vice President JD Vance said on Monday, September 14, 2026, as reported by Fars News, that Washington has held direct talks with Yemen's Houthi movement and is watching developments in Yemen "very closely." He added the US is certainly concerned about the group's escalating attacks on ships and Saudi infrastructure, but said Americans should not be afraid, while cautioning that people should stay alert to the existing risks. It had previously been reported that President Donald Trump turned down a request from Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for a US military strike on the Houthis, offering intelligence support instead.
