Vegetable oil association says about 4 billion euros owed to staple goods importers remains unpaid

The secretary of Iran's vegetable oil industries association said about 4 billion euros in foreign currency receivables owed to importers of staple goods, including 1 billion euros owed to vegetable oil plants, has gone unpaid for the past 17 months. The remarks were published on Monday 27 July 2026 (5 Mordad 1405).
He said stabilising the cooking oil market depends on those receivables being settled. Cooking oil is among the staple goods covered by preferential currency allocation and market regulation, and delays in settling importers' foreign currency claims can affect the continuity of input imports and the stability of domestic supply.
