Wall Street ends Friday lower; Nasdaq drops over 1.8% as S&P 500 books first losing week in three

US stock indexes closed lower on Friday, 17 July 2026, with the S&P 500 down 1.15%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average off 0.98% and the Nasdaq down 1.81%. The slide left the S&P 500 with its first losing week in the last three.
A steep sell-off in semiconductor shares and worries over the US-Iran war drove the selling. US crude climbed more than 13% over the week to around $81 a barrel; the oil jump lifted Treasury yields and weighed on equities.
