Wall Street tech stocks tumble Thursday as Tesla and Alphabet fall after earnings
23 July 2026 | 3 months ago
The Nasdaq fell more than 2 percent in Wall Street trading on Thursday, July 23 (1 Mordad), putting it on course for its worst day in a month, with the biggest technology firms leading the decline. Tesla sank about 14 percent after its second-quarter profit dropped despite strong electric-vehicle deliveries, while Alphabet, Google's parent, fell about 7 percent after raising its capital-spending forecast for AI data centres. According to Bloomberg, a basket of the seven largest tech firms lost more than 5 percent and the S&P 500 slipped about 1.4 percent.
Investor doubts about the payoff from heavy AI spending, alongside oil pushing above 100 dollars a barrel and rising US Treasury yields amid escalating tensions and Trump's threat to widen strikes, reinforced a risk-off mood in global markets. The figures refer to Thursday's midday trading in New York.
