A source attached to Yemen's foreign ministry said on Thursday, 30 July 2026 (8 Mordad 1405) that circulating reports of a Yemeni attack on a vessel at Egypt's Damietta port are untrue.
The denial followed a statement earlier the same day by the maritime security firm Ambrey that a fire at Damietta port had been caused by a drone striking a gas storage vessel. Initial reports did not identify who was responsible, and one of the parties named in speculation has now rejected responsibility.
Damietta, on Egypt's Mediterranean coast, is one of the country's liquefied gas export terminals, and any security incident there bears on eastern Mediterranean energy routes. As of publication, Egyptian officials had not issued an independent account of who was behind the incident, and its cause remains unconfirmed.
