All four pillars of Iran's capital market are closed for three days starting today, Saturday. The Tehran Stock Exchange, the OTC market, the commodity and the energy exchange have zero trading. The last main index reading was five million, one hundred eighty seven thousand, two hundred fifty eight points. This closure was set by the Exchange Council, coordinated with the government's official mourning period. In that last session, both the main and equal weighted indexes rose, with most symbols trading higher. The three day halt was coordinated between the Exchange Council and the government. Even so, the informal dollar, gold, and coin markets kept trading right through the closure. Today, Saturday, the free market dollar and the Emami coin both changed hands as usual. This is the year's second major closure; the market was fully shut for eighty days earlier on. At that reopening, against many expectations, the main index rose about two thousand five hundred points. In the coming days, watch for the Tuesday reopening and any fresh notice from the exchange.
