BAMA Under the Lens: Bama Mining's Net Profit Roughly Quadrupled in a Year, But Why the Quality of That Jump Matters More Than the Number (Tuesday, July 14, 2026)

A Sahmino reader asked what we think of "BAMA." BAMA is the ticker of Bama Mining & Industrial Company, one of Iran's oldest producers of lead and zinc concentrate, and it last traded at 2,859 rials (Tuesday, July 14, 2026). In this report, with no buy or sell recommendation and relying on official data, we answer one key question: Bama's net profit roughly quadrupled in a year, but is the quality of that profit as bright as the number itself?

Background: a seventy-year-old mine on the Irankuh reserves

Bama was founded in Isfahan in 1951 and began operating in 1955, meaning more than 70 years of history. Its mine and industrial complex sit on the Irankuh range southwest of Isfahan (Falavarjan), and the entire chain, from exploration and extraction to flotation and calcination, is carried out at the same complex. Bama has been listed on the Tehran Stock Exchange since March 2004 and trades on the second market, part of the Vamir/Omid group family.

Two structural features define the whole investment story here. First, its export orientation: more than 90 percent of the company's sales are exports, so Bama's revenue is tied directly to the dollar rate and to global zinc and lead prices. Second, the commodity nature of its product: it sells a global commodity, so its profit is inherently cyclical and swings up and down with metal prices.

One methodological caveat: share count and earnings per share appear on different bases (before and after capital increases) across various reports, so we stay cautious on a precise price-to-earnings ratio and focus instead on "earnings quality."

The profit picture: striking growth, but with a small asterisk

Unlike many small tickers on the market, Bama is profitable and pays dividends. Its net-profit trend in recent years has been genuinely striking:

At first glance that means profit nearly quadrupled in a year. But here is the "small asterisk" a neutral analysis must not skip: earnings quality matters more than earnings themselves. A large part of the 1403 profit jump came from non-operating income, especially FX-translation gains (the effect of a rising dollar on the company's foreign-currency assets). This kind of profit is one-off and non-recurring, and does not necessarily repeat next year.

The second and more important point: in the full-year 1403 results, sales growth came almost entirely from higher prices (zinc-concentrate prices rose more than 100 percent), not from higher output. In fact, output of the main product fell about 6 percent and sales volume dropped about 13 percent. So the engine of profit growth was global prices and the exchange rate, not physical expansion of the business. Drivers: why is BAMA's chart so volatile?

Look at the long-term trend and BAMA is a ticker that "moves": in the past year alone, the adjusted price ranged from a low near 1,627 rials to a high of 3,524 rials. The reason is clear; when more than 90 percent of a company's revenue is export and commodity based, its share price is effectively sensitive to three external variables:

• The dollar rate (Nima and open market), which directly sets the rial value of export revenue.
• Global zinc and lead prices, which set the floor and ceiling of the profit margin.
• Domestic policy, such as feedstock rates, export duties, and production limits.

For this reason BAMA is more of a cyclical, commodity-driven stock than a "buy and forget" one; its return is sensitive to the timing of the commodity cycle.

Up-to-date points every shareholder should know

• A capital increase is underway: on July 13, 2026 (22 Tir 1405) the board's proposal for a capital increase was published. Its funding source (retained earnings, cash contribution, or asset revaluation) matters a great deal for the impact analysis and should be tracked in the justification report.
• General meeting and dividend: the meeting for the fiscal year ending March 2025 has been held and the cash-dividend payment schedule published; a track record of paying dividends is one thing that sets Bama apart from loss-making tickers.
• Power-rationing risk: the company has disclosed limits on electricity use and their effect on output; this is a real operating risk for mining and energy-intensive industries in summer.
• Group structure: Bama has subsidiaries and affiliates such as Keyhan Maaden Apadana and Shahin Roy Sepahan, and its financial statements are consolidated.

Outlook (analytical, not a firm forecast)

The neutral takeaway: Bama presents the picture of a high-quality, long-established miner, valuable reserves, export-oriented, profitable, and dividend-paying, the opposite of the market's small, loss-making tickers. But that same export orientation makes it a cyclical stock tied to the dollar and metal prices, whose profit can swing sharply year to year; and part of the recent bright profit had a non-operating, non-recurring source. This year's profit durability is tied to the dollar and metals staying high, and that is an assumption, not a certainty.

What to watch

For any decision, these questions are more useful than simply looking at the profit figure:

1. What is the share of operating profit (real product sales) versus non-operating profit (FX translation)?
2. Does sales growth come from output volume or only from higher prices?
3. What are the details of the new capital increase, and from what source?
4. Where in the cycle are global zinc and lead prices and the dollar?
5. How much does power rationing affect summer output?
