Chinese President Xi Jinping met US President Donald Trump at the White House on Thursday, 24 September 2026, his first trip to Washington in more than a decade. Trade, Taiwan, artificial intelligence and the Iran file were on the agenda. Ahead of the meeting, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said on Wednesday, 23 September, that the two countries had extended the Busan trade truce, due to expire on 10 November, to 10 January. The meeting took place as scheduled on 24 September.
