Houshang Bazvand, deputy minister of roads and urban development and managing director of the Construction and Development of Transportation Infrastructures Company, said on Tuesday 6 Mordad 1405 (28 July 2026) that 2,700 billion tomans of consulting engineers' claims were paid during the 1404 year on the instruction of the minister of roads and urban development.
He said talks were held with the head of the Plan and Budget Organization to provide a further 2,000 billion tomans in cash, of which only 361 billion tomans has been paid so far. Bazvand called for claims to be settled in cash rather than through the government's general murabaha bonds.
He added that the company has contracts with 145 consulting engineering firms across 2,000 projects, employing 10,000 people directly. Bazvand said the low pay of specialist engineers compared with other countries has driven emigration or moves into other professions. The meeting also announced the formation of a committee comprising two of the company's deputies and three representatives of the road and rail consulting engineers' association.
