3.2 million Arbaeen pilgrims have crossed out of Iran and 1.9 million have returned

Ali Akbar Pourjamshidian, head of Iran's Central Arbaeen Headquarters, said during a visit to the Khosravi border crossing on the evening of Sunday, 2 August 2026 (11 Mordad 1405), that about 3.2 million people have so far crossed out of Iran through the country's six designated Arbaeen border points, and that about 1.9 million of them have returned. He said pilgrims are still leaving through the crossings.
Pourjamshidian identified Mehran, Shalamcheh and Khosravi as the busiest of the Arbaeen crossings, and said some borders including Mehran are experiencing crowding and may face a shortage of buses. He asked pilgrims to manage their return journeys and to choose among all the crossings according to their distance from home. He said the roadside service stations known as mawkibs will remain at the borders for two days after Arbaeen and continue providing services.
Moving several million travellers in a short window sharply raises demand for road transport, fuel and border services across Iran's western provinces, and bears on turnover at border marketplaces and on the transit of goods between Iran and Iraq.
