Amid Reports of Possible Intervention, Senior Iranian Official Warns South Korea Over Strait of Hormuz
5 September 2026 | 2 months ago
According to Mehr News Agency, carried by Donya-e-Eqtesad on Saturday, September 5, 2026 (14 Shahrivar 1405), a senior Iranian security and political official told the Al-Mayadeen network that Iran warns South Korea not to give in to US pressure to take part in what he called "illegal US military operations." He said Tehran would treat any South Korean participation against Iran in the Strait of Hormuz as direct military involvement in aggression against Iran.
The warning came a day after South Korea's presidential office denied media reports that it had decided to send troops or take part in securing the Strait of Hormuz, saying no such decision had been made. Ecoiran also carried a similar report the same Friday, citing the same Iranian official's remarks to Al-Mayadeen.
