New York Times: Iran Unlikely to Accept US Terms Before American Midterm Elections
5 September 2026 | 2 months ago
According to ISNA, carried by Donya-e-Eqtesad early on Saturday, September 5, 2026 (14 Shahrivar 1405), the New York Times reported, based on a new US intelligence assessment, that there is no evidence Iran is willing to accept US terms before America's congressional midterm elections. The assessment, citing US officials, said Iran has grown more confident in its ability to target US bases in West Asia and has strengthened its resolve to counter US military action.
Ecoiran separately reported the same New York Times assessment the same day, writing that Iran appears "prepared for a long war." The reports followed recent remarks by US President Donald Trump, who has also said he does not know when the conflict between the United States and Iran will end.
