AP reports the Saudi crown prince warned Trump by phone that a broad strike on Iran would harm the global economy
3 August 2026 | 3 months ago
The Associated Press reported that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman warned US President Donald Trump in a phone call against resuming broad military operations against Iran, telling him such a step would damage the global economy. The report was carried in Iranian media on Monday 3 August 2026 (12 Mordad 1405).
According to the report, the crown prince also said Kuwait could be more vulnerable to attacks on US bases there, and that further escalation could seriously harm the global economy while still failing to achieve its intended objectives. A source told the Associated Press the call was frank and constructive, and the agency said the conversation was one of the factors behind Trump's decision to resume ceasefire talks with Iran.
The account is consistent with Trump's own public remarks, in which he said Washington's regional allies, including Saudi Arabia, had encouraged the United States to pursue the diplomatic track. Crude oil prices fell sharply in the same session after news that the planned strike had been called off and a new round of talks announced.
