CBS News reported Thursday, 15 Mordad 1405 (August 6, 2026), citing US officials, that President Donald Trump is set to speak by phone with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman about matters related to Iran. Eghtesad Online, citing ISNA, said the US broadcaster added that Saudi Arabia has played a role in efforts to ease tensions in the Persian Gulf region.
CBS News said that after the US pulled back from carrying out a wider strike on Iran late last week, Trump told an event in Las Vegas on Wednesday, 14 Mordad (August 5), that leaders of several friendly countries, including Saudi Arabia, had urged that negotiations be given one final chance. IRNA reported that Iran and the US had earlier reached a memorandum of understanding in Islamabad aimed at easing tensions, which was never implemented.
