Araghchi Says US Pressure Will Not Work, in a Post After Meeting Qatar's Prime Minister

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, in a post on X on Friday, 6 Shahrivar 1405 (August 28, 2026) after meeting Qatar's Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, said he had held "constructive and innovative" talks with him in Tehran. Araghchi added that returning diplomacy to its course is not impossible, and that this depends on the United States understanding one simple fact: that pressure does not work. He said Washington must build trust, speak with respect, acknowledge Iran's rights and honor its commitments.
The remarks come as the US-Israeli war on Iran approaches its six month mark, and after US President Donald Trump had earlier said he was in no hurry for Iran to return to negotiations.
