Asiatech chief executive says reports that data centres were put on alert for an internet shutdown are untrue

1 August 2026 | 3 months ago

The chief executive of the Iranian internet service provider Asiatech said on Saturday, 1 August 2026 (10 Mordad 1405), that reports of an alert being issued to data centres in preparation for an internet shutdown are not true. The remarks were published at 7:42pm Tehran time.

He added that if any problem arises, the best course is to check with the service provider's official channels rather than to spread rumours.

Internet continuity matters directly to Iran's financial markets, because online trading in shares and funds, the crypto market and a large share of e commerce all run over the network. In recent weeks outages in the systems of several large Iranian banks had also disrupted customer services.
