The deputy for transport at Iran's Road Maintenance and Road Transport Organisation said on Saturday, 1 August 2026 (10 Mordad 1405), that more than 530,000 Arbaeen pilgrims had been carried to the country's borders by the public transport fleet between 16 July and 31 July 2026 (25 Tir to 9 Mordad).
Mehdi Khezri said about 130,000 pilgrims had so far been moved on to their destination provinces by the public fleet after returning to the country, and that 6,500 buses are taking part in the Arbaeen travel plan. He said outbound trips are spread over roughly 14 days while return trips are compressed into a few days, and asked pilgrims not to leave their journey to the final days. He added that auxiliary fleet capacity is being used alongside the public fleet in coordination with ministries and provincial authorities, and that rest areas and services have been arranged at border terminals.
The Arbaeen movement is one of Iran's largest annual transport operations and bears on fuel demand, border traffic and the business of road haulage and coach operators. Border terminals had earlier been reported to have handled more than 2.81 million crossings in 14 days.
