BMW says it will cut several thousand jobs in Germany by the end of 2027

The carmaker BMW said on Wednesday, 29 July 2026, that it will cut several thousand jobs in Germany by the end of 2027 under a voluntary workforce adjustment programme.
According to Reuters, a company spokesperson stressed that the programme is voluntary. The decision is the latest in a chain of workforce reductions among German carmakers, taken in response to falling profitability and weak demand in the global car market. Competitive pressure from Chinese manufacturers and the transition to electric vehicles have been cited as the main causes of the squeeze.
BMW has a number of models present in the Iranian market, and developments at the carmaker reach the domestic market through imported cars and spare parts.
