According to energy news outlet Oilprice.com, US Central Command (CENTCOM) said early on Tuesday, September 8, 2026 (17 Shahrivar 1405), that US forces struck and destroyed five Iranian oil tankers: four vessels named Kaviz, Charminar, Horizon 1 and Riesco in the Gulf of Oman, and a fifth, Derya, near Kharg Island. CENTCOM described the action as a response to an IRGC ballistic missile fired at a US Navy warship.
In response, according to Donya e Eqtesad and Khabaronline (citing Al Jazeera and IRNA), Iran fired ballistic missiles early on Wednesday, September 9 (18 Shahrivar), at the US operated al Azraq and Prince Hassan bases in Jordan. Jordan's armed forces said 20 missiles entered its airspace, of which 18 were intercepted and two fell in sparsely populated areas, with no casualties reported. Local sources also reported hearing multiple explosions and air raid sirens in Bahrain around the same time.
Per Oilprice.com, Brent crude broke through $100 a barrel early Wednesday for the first time since July 24, rising 2.25 percent to $100.12, while US benchmark WTI rose 1.8 percent to $94.67. Sahmino's own tracked data and tgju.org showed Brent trading between $100.8 and $100.9 as of 16:00 Tehran time the same day.
