China's power demand hits records in a heatwave while the grid manages the load without blackouts
5 August 2026 | 3 months ago
Oilprice reported on Wednesday 5 August 2026 that the State Grid Corporation of China said electricity demand across much of the country hit a record amid scorching summer temperatures, driving grid loads to all time highs. The report was carried by Reuters.
According to the company, electricity loads reached records in China's northern, northeastern and eastern regions on Monday 3 August and Tuesday 4 August 2026.
No blackouts were reported, with the grid operator directing more baseload electricity in time to the regions where it was needed for air conditioning. China's power consumption is one of the indicators of energy demand in the world's largest oil importer.
