Mohammadreza Abedani, head of the National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company in the South Khorasan region, said in a report published by the oil ministry news service Shana on Monday 3 August 2026 (12 Mordad 1405) that more than 12 million cubic metres of CNG were delivered to dual fuel vehicles through the province's filling stations in the first three months of the current Iranian year.
He said that level of consumption produced savings of more than 12 million litres of petrol. Abedani described wider CNG use as one of the ways to reduce dependence on petrol, and said raising the fuel's share of the consumption basket lowers petrol use, fuel costs and pollutant emissions.
He also said regional specialists carry out periodic inspections of equipment performance, service quality and compliance with safety requirements at filling stations.
Iran's petrol shortfall is a live issue in the country's energy economy, and CNG substitution is being pursued as one demand management tool within the national fuel basket. The figures in this report cover South Khorasan province only.
