Death toll from Russia's missile attack on Kyiv rises to at least 17, with goods warehouses and a railway station hit

The death toll from Russia's missile and drone attack on Kyiv and the surrounding areas, carried out overnight on Tuesday, 4 August 2026 (13 Mordad 1405), has risen to at least 17. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Wednesday that Russia had fired 24 ballistic missiles, four cruise missiles and 115 drones in the assault.

According to Zelenskyy, the main targets were warehouse facilities belonging to civilian businesses, and infrastructure and a railway station were also struck, including a brewing company, construction materials warehouses and civilian logistics facilities. Ukraine's State Emergency Service reported clean up operations after what it described as a massive attack; warehouses in the city of Brovary and another warehouse in Bucha, where a fire broke out, were among the sites damaged. Zelenskyy said the shortage of missile interceptors was a direct cause of the casualties.

Ukraine in turn struck on Wednesday with drones at the sorting centre of a warehouse belonging to Wildberries, Russia's largest online retailer, in the town of Aleksin in Tula oblast. The regional governor, Dmitry Milyaev, said other structures were also hit, including two apartment buildings.
