Disruption to jet fuel exports from the Persian Gulf triples Asia to Europe flight prices
27 July 2026 | 3 months ago
According to a report published at 18:00 Tehran time on Monday 27 July 2026, intensifying regional tensions in West Asia and disruption to jet fuel exports from the Persian Gulf have tripled the price of flights on Asia to Europe routes.
The Persian Gulf is one of the world's main centres for refining and exporting aviation fuel, and disruption along this route directly raises airlines' fuel costs, which make up a large share of their operating expenses. That cost increase has fed through into ticket prices on long-haul routes between Asia and Europe.
The development sits alongside earlier reports of a sharp fall in shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz; according to reports on Monday, traffic through the strait had dropped to fewer than 10 vessels a day. The channel through which this reaches Iran is air freight costs and the region's transit routes.
