Rural cooperatives network has bought 2.87 million tons of wheat; potato prices fall in Kermanshah and Hamedan

Ali Barabari, acting head of Iran's Central Organization for Rural Cooperatives, said on Monday 27 July 2026, at a meeting of the national high council for crop farming, that the rural cooperatives network has so far purchased about 2,870,000 tons of wheat. He described the figure as higher than last year and said the pricing system had been designed so that purchases worked in farmers' favour.
On the potato market, Barabari said that unlike last year, when there was a shortage, the crop is plentiful this year and much of it has gone into cold storage. He said the latest reports point to falling potato prices in Kermanshah and Hamedan provinces, and that the market is expected to stabilise by the end of the current week at the latest.
He added that the organisation is ready to step into the market if supply falls and prices rise, but that for now managing the market without direct intervention is the priority. Barabari also said industry uptake for purchases based on the visual quality index has been lower than expected.
